I can’t believe you are eight! I know it’s been said a zillion times before, but kids really do grow up too fast, and you are no exception.

I remember the day you were born. It was a beautiful, warm day and Daddy and I were so excited to meet you! I won’t bore you or gross you out with the details (although maybe someday when you have a wife and are getting ready to meet your first child for the very first time, you’ll understand how special each little moment is in that process). You were born on Saturday September 15, 2007 at 9:42pm. You were perfect.

So jump ahead now eight years and here is what I see:

I see a boy who cares and is thoughtful and wants to help, especially when his little brother gets hurt. Like this morning when you came to give him a hug and rubbed his back to help him feel better – even when he slapped your hand away, you were still there, concerned that he was okay.

BackToSchool-2015I see a boy who loves school (and you have no idea how happy this makes me!) and actually gets sad at the end of the year when summer vacation starts. I hope you keep this trait for many, many, many years to come.

I see a boy who loves to play soccer, shoot hoops or toss the football around.

I see a boy who cannot go a moment without having a Lego in his hand. Yes, this is your vice, and a little part of me likes it and is thankful that you choose to obsess over Legos instead of video games.

I see a boy who takes those Legos and creates the most amazing, imaginative, creative, unique things – everything from monsters and creatures to lookout towers and vehicles. I love watching your wheels turning.

I see a boy who loves to try new things, whether it be a new food or a new game or activity. You are always willing to give it a go.

I see a boy who is a great friend and brother and for the most part, is generally happy and easy-going.IMG_3022

I see a boy who is learning about faith and love and is never afraid to show either one of those two things.

I see a boy who will still give me a hug and a kiss at school (even in front of his friends) and is not afraid to tell me when he’s hurt, tired, scared, upset or anything else.

I see you growing up in so many ways and I know that someday you will be the most fantastic man.

I am proud to be your Mother and I can’t wait to give you a big giant hug at the end of every day. I love you my Big Snugglebug, you’ll always be my baby. I don’t mean to embarrass you, just consider it a giant compliment of how much you are loved by me.

Love,
Mommy
