I woke up this morning to Will giving Brayden a timeout. Not the most pleasant way to enter the day.
As I was getting dressed, I noticed an eyelash on my finger. Have you ever wished on an eyelash? Well, I wished for a fun, productive, happy, easy day, and blew my wish away.
As I was driving Zackery to school today, both boys yammering away in the back seat (not sure that’s an actual word, but I’ll go with it anyway), I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful day. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, the air was clean and fresh. I welcomed today’s beauty, choosing to start my day over from the abrubt awakening first thing in the morning.
Brayden and I dropped off Zack, headed back home for a short while before his Wednesday music class, and all seemed good. Hey, maybe there really is something to wishing on an eyelash?! *wink*
Long story short – most of the remainder of my day was far from easy, fun or productive. There were moments. Several of them, but I won’t get into details – I’m letting them go as I continue to choose happiness today.
I was watching part of the show The Doctors and one of the Doctors said, more than once (apologies as I don’t remember the exact words he said), “it’s hard to be happy when you don’t have your health.” That statement stuck with me. It rung true with me. I could relate to what he was saying.
When your body is not at it’s best, it’s hard for your mind and soul to find happiness. I believe that there is a lot of physical pain that can be traced back to some cause within our soul or spirit. Not all of it. Obviously, if you break your arm that pain you feel is because your arm is broken, not due to some past energy that needs to be released. In the opposite way, your mind can positively affect the way your body feels. The more you think and believe your body is healthy and strong and powerful, the more that will tend to be true. Basically, (please don’t think I’m koo-koo here) our minds are VERY powerful forces.
That brings me to what I’m trying to say. Mindset matters. You can have a lousy day. Your kids can misbehave, someone could cut you off on the freeway, you could burn dinner unintentionally. Remaining happy through all of that can have a huge impact. Impact on your body, your family, your whole environment. Think of happiness shock waves, or a ripple of smiles.
My day did not go nearly how I had planned, and even though I may have slipped a few times and gotten angry (sorry boys), I always returned back to a state of happiness. If I look at my life from above, from 10,000 feet in the air, I am happy. I have a great life. Great kids, a great husband, great friends, a great passion and purpose…
I wasn’t always this happy, and especially in the face of far-from-perfect days. Getting your mind to work positively in your favor takes some time, some practice, and most importantly, the motivation to want your mind to be powerful. Expecting to be miserable every day will most likely result in misery. Choosing to be happy, well, most likely you’ll get happiness. It’s all in your mindset. That’s where you have to start.
Every moment is a choice. Choose happiness. It’s so much better!
