Tomorrow morning the boys and I (all three – I’m including Will) are driving up to Lake Tahoe to hike a relatively easy (per the website) trail to Skunk Harbor. It’s 1.5 miles which will take us down to the Lake, and I’m hoping a pretty good spot for us to swim – or at least splash around and cool off. We won’t be the only ones hiking this trail. Tomorrow is the longest day of the year, and it is also Climb Out of the Darkness – a symbolic representation of rising “out of the darkness and into the light of hope and recovery.”

Climb Out of the Darkness is the world’s largest event raising awareness of postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety & OCD, postpartum PTSD, postpartum psychosis, postpartum bipolar disorder, and pregnancy depression and anxiety.” – Climb Out of the Darkness website

This hike, or symbolic climb, is taking place all over the world, in over 100 cities and 7 countries (and these statistics may have increased since I last checked). It is organized and was started by the nonprofit Postpartum Progress (you may have heard me talk about Katherine Stone, the Founder, and PP before – and if not, well then hmmm…. because she is doing amazing things!).

I’m excited to be joining this year’s hike, and especially that it is one that my whole family can join me on. Not only is it meaningful for me to participate, but I will get to meet other women in the Reno/Tahoe area who are dealing with or have recovered from exactly what I did.

I will be honest though, I’m not entirely in the best cardiovascular shape! LOL! So I guess it’s a good thing that “the Skunk Harbor trail is perfect for kids and dogs, and can even handle a stroller fairly easily.”

On another quick note, I know I haven’t been around here much lately (“here” being my blog). My book hit #1 bestseller on Amazon by 11am on the day I launched it (June 3rd), and my life has been a whirlwind for the past few weeks. It started off with shock and this crazy lady (me) not knowing what to do with myself (I seriously could not function for the rest of the day after I found out about my #1 status) to floating around on cloud ten for the rest of the week, to finally feeling a little bit back to normalish (whatever that really means) to now this week being back to my calm, grounded self (except for the fact that it’s the first week of summer vacation and I’ve driven more this week than I have in the past six months – dropping one off here and picking up another there, and on and on…). So, apologies for leaving you all hanging for the past few weeks while life happened.

I’m hoping to take some really awesome pictures, and I’ll post a couple on Facebook for you all to enjoy.
