Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. A day dedicated to moms all over the world, and up in Heaven. A day where moms can hope and dream that they won’t have to lift a finger. A day where they won’t have to prepare a meal or wipe a bottom. A day where there is no homework, no soccer practice, no errands and no picking up one child to drop off another. A day where children get along and husbands rub her back. A day where the sweet smell of flowers combine with the scent of clean laundry, magically filling the quiet, spotless, sunshine-filled house. A day where the only bath time she has to worry about is her own, where Calgon takes her away inside a sparkling clean tub, and the chocolate covered strawberries nestled in the bowl next to the candles and champagne are all hers. A day where bedtime is easy and quick, there are no up-and-downs, no I’m scared of the dark, no I need a drink of water, no rub my back a little longer. A day where she gets to do whatever she wants to do, no questions, no bother. Mother’s Day – a day just for her.
Yes, wouldn’t it be nice if all of that happened? But come on now, really? Don’t you enjoy the satisfaction of cooking a good meal where your kids both want more? Or checking that perfect homework and watching your son score a goal? Or watching your youngest mimic your oldest, and figuring out how to just work it out? Or singing silly songs in the car as you drive all over town, and the hum of the washing machine rumbling, or the warm towels straight out of the dryer to wrap your little one up in right after their bath? Or sharing the strawberries with two little grins and chocolatey fingers grabbing for more? Or reading those stories, and soft lullabies, tucking them in with a hug and a kiss, and being the one they run to for comfort and love?
Yes, it would be nice to have just one day, for a mother to do whatever she wants, but I know for this mom, yes I’m talking about me, what fills my heart the most is the smile and kiss at the end of the day, and the billion “I love you”s that my little boys say.
It’s days like tomorrow, Mother’s Day, where I get to be thankful and grateful for all that I have. Blessed that I have two children who love me to the moon and back. Their hugs and kisses and the love they show me, deep down inside, that’s all this mother could ever ask for.
To all you mothers out there, where ever you are – here on this earth, here in this world, or up in Heaven with my wonderful Mom – Happy, Happy, Happy Mother’s Day! Whatever your heart’s desire is for tomorrow, I hope it’s all yours.
With Love & Mommy Hugs,
