It’s International Women’s Day. My intention was to write a blog post for today, mentioning and honoring all the amazing women I have had the privilege of being inspired with and by. And now, it’s 4:30 in the afternoon and it’s not done.
Grace. I’m giving myself grace.
So… short and sweet and to the point: I know so many amazing women (chances are if you’re reading this, you’re one of them). I don’t think I actually could possibly list all the women who have positively influenced me so far in my life. Instead, I’ll hi-light just one.
My Mother. Olga Sommer. You were Beautiful. Kind. Gentle. Caring. Compassionate. Generous. Loving. Strong. Funny. Encouraging. Inspiring. Smart. Supportive… and I could go on. It’s because of you that I am who I am and do what I do. I wanted to be just like you! A wonderful, loving, present stay at home mom. You left your career to be home with us, but you never let your passion and your skills for nursing completely go. I respected that. You were a woman and a person, not just Mom, although in my eyes you were the BEST Mom.
I miss you every day, and I know you’re just a thought through closed eyes away.
If I can leave in this world just a fraction of the love imprint you left on me, then I’ve done my part.
In honor of you and all the amazing women who have had a part in my life, Happy International Women’s Day.
